The Rotary Club of Port
Pirie co-hosted the inaugural Southern Flinders Business
Employment and Training Awards Gala Night
on May 1st,
2010 with ninety-three nominations received for the sixteen
categories.
Co-hosts were the Port
Pirie Chamber of Commerce, and the
Regional Development Board, Yorke and Mid North, who presented the
Training Awards. The Rotary Awards were presented for Pride of
Workmanship.
Emcee for the evening was Sean Holden, past
president of the Rotary Club of Pt Augusta, and guest of honour was
Katrina Webb, Paralympian and successful Business Woman. More than
200 guests attended the Awards and the announcement of each Award
recipient was well received
As guest of honour Katrina spoke about her diagnosis of Cerebral
Palsy and learning to cope with that; the impact it had on her life,
the changes she had to make and the new determination that she gained
from it all. Having competed in three Paralympics, Atlanta, Sydney
and Athens and experienced the pride and determination of
Paralympians gave her a whole new perspective and appreciation on the
meaning of life. Setting goals is just one of the lessons she has
taken into her business life and as she prepares for the birth of her
second child she still takes time to expand her motivational
presentations into the International corporate scene. The opportunity
to speak with Katrina was warmly welcomed by many after the awards.
The Rotary Club of Port Pirie spent more than six
months in preparation for this evening and President John Brazel was
more than pleased to make the presentations to the six winners of the
Pride of Workmanship Awards.
The efforts of Vocation Director Barbara Camporeale in
firstly identifying the need for such an award and then the tireless
efforts in making this evening such a success shouldn't go
unnoticed. On behalf of the Vocational Committee and the members of
the Rotary Club of Pt Pirie
